The Yenikapı subway station has been opened in 2013. It is Istanbul’s main subway transit hub, located on the remains of the ancient Theodosius harbor. Yenikapı is hosting one of the stops of the Marmaray, the railway system passing under the Bosphorus to connect the European and Asian sides of the megapolis. The station’s “Neo-Ottoman” style alludes to a glorious historic heritage, while it’s poor architecture creates frequent bottlenecks for the 1.5 million passengers per day.
